Super8, color, transferred in 2K, 2.27 min, 2025
i roll with you begins with a camera swap. The protagonist hands over a DSLR camera and takes the Super 8 camera, walks across a field, lies down on the ground and then rolls down the slope. The Super 8 camera rolls along with them. The film rolls in tandem with the human body, allowing light to fall on the emulsion layer in order to capture and record what the human body cannot see.
The passage of time and the texture of movement are physically re-enacted and made visible. The Super 8 camera represents an extension or prolongation of the body. At the same time, a fusion between body, film strip, camera and movement is initiated. The recorded events are intimately linked to the process of filming and projection. In this way, this work explores a body-based and performative approach to creating moving images. Furthermore, i roll with you prompts reflection on the direction of the gaze, camera movement and control, and evokes painterly, dizzying visual compositions that strive for a different kind of filmmaking.
